Charlottesville Free Clinic - Dental Clinic

From 2009 to 2016, Martin Horn worked on several renovation projects for the Free Clinic and Health Department at the Rose Hill Drive location. These projects included creating separate spaces for the clinic and health department, building screening rooms, and adding a dental operatory. In 2014, Martin Horn collaborated with the architect Daggett & Grigg on a design that would have added parking and expanded the Preston Avenue site. However, disagreements between the City and County prevented the project from moving forward. Despite this, the Free Clinic continued to operate at Rose Hill while gradually transitioning most operations to Preston Avenue.

At the Preston Avenue location, where the current renovation took place, Martin Horn played a key role in transforming the space to meet the evolving needs of the Free Clinic. Starting in 2020, they completed several major projects, including renovating the pharmacy, offices, dispensary, and entire third floor for medical use. By 2024, Martin Horn had successfully converted a medical office on the first floor into a dental clinic. Throughout these projects, Martin Horn collaborated with various administrators, including Meghan Hinger and Willa Barnhardt, who oversaw the completion of the Preston Avenue renovations. Key architects included Chuck Dickey, who designed the pharmacy renovations, while much of the Preston Avenue work was handled as a design/build by Martin Horn
