Women In Construction Week 2020 – Megan Jackson
Megan Jackson | Carpenter
“Women have the right to do anything they want to do. And if construction makes them happy, then they should go for it.”
How did you end up in construction?
My stepdad was in construction and while I was growing up, he taught me about it and I’d help him on projects. In high school, I started building and specialty trade classes.
What was your experience like when you first started as a woman in construction?
At first, people would think that I’m not strong enough, or just not capable of doing my job.
Has it changed since then? How?
After being with Martin Horn for five years, I’ve definitely proven that I am capable of doing my job.
What career advice do you have for younger women interested in construction?
Have thick skin. Don’t take negative comments to heart.
Why do you think women should work in construction?
Women have the right to do anything they want to do. And if construction makes them happy, then they should go for it.
