Learning from the Ground Up: Training the Next Generation at Martin Horn

At Martin Horn, we believe in nurturing the potential of our interns and younger employees through hands-on experiences and expert guidance. Our "Learning from the Ground Up" training program provides real-world insights and practical knowledge from the start of their careers.

A Hands-On Approach to Quality Control and Concrete Testing

Recently, we took a group of our interns and younger employees on a comprehensive learning journey focusing on concrete—one of construction's foundational elements. Our first stop was Allied Concrete, where our team learned about quality control and the production process. They even got hands-on experience by making test cylinders, helping them understand the meticulous efforts involved in producing high-quality concrete.

Next, we visited ECS, Engineering Consulting Services, to learn about the rigorous testing procedures ensuring concrete structure integrity. The highlight was breaking the test cylinders made at Allied Concrete. This practical demonstration provided valuable insights into the material's properties and the importance of quality assurance in construction.

Expert Insights from Kahnco

To round off the concrete training, we invited Ted Kahn from Kahnco, a respected concrete contractor, to our office. Ted's session explored different types of concrete pours and key aspects to monitor during preconstruction and operations phases. His expertise and real-world examples enriched our team's understanding of concrete applications and project management.
