Cost:
$3.6 million Completion: August 2005 The Charlottesville Pavilion
is a great example of successful value engineering. Martin Horn was hired before
the architects, and worked closely with them throughout the project to reduce
the total cost by 25%without sacrificing function. The Pavilion
is a unique and complicated structure. To build it, we had to import 120 tons
of steel and 34,718 square feet of fabric, and supervise a crew of Hungarian Mountaineers
to stretch the fabric over the frame. Even after the fabric was damaged in a storm,
Martin Horn completed the job in time for the first concert. |
