Cost:
$3.4 million
Completion: September 2006
When Martin Horn carried out a major renovation
of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, the
contract required that the airport remain in full
operation at all times and stipulated heavy fines
for delays. Martin Horn's Project Manager and
Superintendent worked closely with airport and
airline staff to implement the project's complex
8-part phasing plan. They carefully supervised
specialized subcontractors, such as the company
installing new baggage conveyor equipment, to
prevent delays. Some work was carried out when
the airport was closedbetween 12 midnight
and 4 am. Security issues complicated the job.
Security personnel monitored workers and tools
at all times, and whenever people or tools left
a secure area, work stopped. Thanks to outstanding
management, the project was completed on schedule,
without any service interruption.
