Cost: $7.5 million
Completion: August 2005
All of the Horn brothers graduated from Charlottesville High School,
so we were glad to give our alma mater its first major renovation since opening in 1974.
And after more than 30 years, it needed a lot of work. The $7.5 million project
included new mechanical and electrical systems, new dining and administrative areas,
a colorful new entrance, and a fresh coat of paint throughout.
A big part of the challenge was working around the students without disrupting them.
Over the course of two summers and one school year, the extensive renovation touched virtually
every part of the building. But much to the students' dismay, no school time was missed.
